Whether you prefer a flat hike or something more hilly and challenging, there is a trail for you to walk. While the Whitsunday Great Walk is a trail that spans over 28 kilometers, you don’t have to walk the entire length of it to enjoy the views and experience of walking through the rainforest.
The Honeyeater Lookout is a local walk that will take a couple of hours to complete. It has an initial steeper incline but levels off fairly quickly. Once you reach the summit, the view favours the Cannonvale side of Airlie Beach.
You’ll get a primer on rainforest habitats with a lot of familiar Gum trees and Cycads in the mix, but at the saddle of the hill you won’t be able to miss the massive strangler fig tree. There is also the Mount Hayward and Jubilee Pocket Lookouts too. These take you on longer trails with eventual views over Shute Harbour and the Whitsunday Islands providing a very scenic backdrop for your picnic.
Cedar Creek Falls is another Whitsundays attraction that goes on the must do list. It is as popular with locals as it is with visitors. The deep swimming hole is very refreshing on a hot summers day. At a 25 minute car ride from town, there is plenty of car parking and it’s an easy walk to the falls. Visitors can also enjoy an interpretive tour of the rainforest as well.
